Educators

KazuTime enables educators (teachers, teacher aids, special educators, daycare staff) to increase the productivity, focus and concentration of young children. As an educator, you are likely responsible for many children at a time and it can be difficult to keep everyone on task. Even small tasks such as putting away art supplies and lining up, can consume more time than necessary. It can be a great help to put Kazu and friends up on a screen or projector for kids to follow throughout the duration of tasks.

The distinctive “beginning”, “time elapsing” and “end of task” features of KazuTime, allow children to pace themselves and helps them gauge the time needed to perform a task. As an added benefit, these features allow children to better anticipate the end of a task, which helps reduce the anxiety associated with having to complete difficult tasks in a given timeframe, or, deal with time pressure in general. That’s why KazuTime is a great tool for classrooms in particular.

How to Use Kazutime At School

Finite Tasks / Activities

(When a task needs to be completed as fast as possible or within a set amount of time)

Clean up the room / play area

As a teacher you can set KazuTime up on a SMART Board in your classroom for clean-up time. This allows for a larger display of the app. Students can visually see how much time is remaining and can race against their fur friends to clean up the classroom. Being able to see the amount of time remaining can also help decrease transitioning behaviors with your students and can get them motivated to complete the task!

Get your project done

As a teacher you can set KazuTime up on a SMART Board in your classroom to let students know how long they have to complete their project. This allows for a larger display of the app that can be seen anywhere in the classroom. Students can visually see how much time is remaining and can race against their fur friends to complete their project. Being able to see the amount of time remaining can help teach students basic time management skills that can be enhanced each time the app is used. Sometimes students may struggle to read a clock and calculate how much time they have left to complete a task. Having KazuTime visually available can help relieve some of the anxieties students may have. It can even help to motivate those students that often procrastinate during seat work to complete the task more efficiently!

Get ready to go home

Do always feel like the end of the school day is a constant race against time? Using KazuTime can help with this! Set KazuTime up on the SMART Board in your classroom to let your students know how much time they have to get ready for home time. Students will be motivated to race against their fur friends, which results in students being ready before the bell! Having KazuTime available to students helps them to understand and see how much time is left, while simultaneously providing positive reinforcement to the students for their behavior (i.e., the dogs, music, stars obtained if task is completed early, etc.). Teachers can also utilize external rewards (e.g., stickers) to further reinforce their students when they get ready for home before the time has elapsed. Pairing KazuTime with positive reinforcement can help to increase the likelihood that the students will demonstrate the behavior again in the future!

Take care of the class pet

Taking care of a class pet can be a fun task for students, but can also take up important teaching time. Using KazuTime on an IPad or Tablet can help students care for the class pet efficiently. The student(s) can visually see how much time is remaining and can race against time to complete the task(s).

Go to the washroom and come back to class

Use KazuTime on a class IPad or Tablet to set a timer (e.g., 2 minutes) before a student leaves the classroom to use the washroom. This can motivate the student to quickly use the washroom and get back to class before the timer is complete. Teachers can also pair KazuTime with positive reinforcement (e.g., team points, sticker, etc.) when a student returns to class before the timer is done. This can result in an increase in students’ efficiency when using the washroom throughout the day, thereby saving students from missing valuable teaching time!

Sustained Tasks / Activities

(When a task or activity needs to be performed the entire length of a set amount of time)

Set play time

As a teacher you can set KazuTime up on a SMART Board in your classroom for play time (e.g., set for 15 minutes). This can allow for a larger display of the app. Additionally, an Educational Assistant may utilize KazuTime on an iPad or Tablet for a particular student they are working with that has difficulty with transitions (e.g., an individual with Autism Spectrum Disorder). KazuTime allows students to visually see how much time is remaining to play. Many students struggle with transitioning from one task to the next. Being able to see and understand the amount of time remaining can help decrease transitioning behaviors that can arise with your students.

Practice your musical instrument

Use KazuTime during music to help students understand and visually identify how much time is remaining to play their instrument. KazuTime can be used on a SMART Board that can be seen by all of the students in the class. Resulting in fewer interruptions from the teacher to remind students how much time is remaining. KazuTime may also be used by an Educational Assistant when working with a student who is hypersensitive to loud noise (e.g., a student with Autism Spectrum Disorder who wears noise cancelling headphones in loud areas). Using KazuTime on an iPad or Tablet can help relieve the student’s anxieties about the loud environment by allowing him or her to visually see the amount of time remaining. As a result, KazuTime can help to make it easier for the student to be fully integrated and enjoying the same activity with their peers!

Gym class – warm up with Kazu

Use KazuTime to get your students motivated and engaged during the warm up for gym! Stretching and warm up activities are important components to a gym class that are often missed due to time constraints. Using KazuTime can ensure every gym time has a consistent warm up and allows students to see how much time is remaining. Teachers can use KazuTime each gym class and can assign a different student to run the warm up each time. This helps to ensure consistency and can get students motivated to keep moving for the entire time!

Show and tell

KazuTime can help keep show and tell on schedule and fun! Use KazuTime on an iPad or Tablet to keep track of the time! This allows for the teacher to focus on the students’ presentations and enjoy. Also, students will be motivated to fill the allotted time since they will be able to visually see how much time they have remaining.

Time allotted for subjects throughout the day

Teachers, do you always feel like you get behind in your daily schedule causing certain subject times to be cut short? Use KazuTime to help keep your day on track! KazuTime can be used for every subject to ensure valuable teaching time is consistent. Students will be able to see how much time is remaining for each subject and this will motivate them to work efficiently. KazuTime can also help ease any anxiety students’ may have when transitioning from one subject to the next.

Lunch time / Snack time

Use KazuTime to keep students focused while enjoying their favourite snacks and lunch. KazuTime can be set up on a SMART Board while students eat. This allows students to see how much time is remaining and motivates them to finish their lunch on time.

Recess time

Students always look forward to recess! Use KazuTime to keep students aware of how much time is remaining. KazuTime can help to prevent students’ from refusing to come inside when the bell rings because they are upset recess is over. Being able to see how much recess time is remaining using KazuTime will help ease the transition back inside the school. An Educational Assistant can use KazuTime as a preventative measure for behaviors with a student who struggles with transitions, in order to provide frequent visual reminders of how much time is remaining.
